Sad. Taxpayers financially support the loiters who hang around the south Cumberland Street area. We are paying to make our streets less safe.
This business had to suffer through the construction work which killed traffic. On top of that, the area is a hangout for many of the ‘unhoused/addicted/mentally-ill’ population that contribute zero to the city. Financial drain, littering on a giant scale and vandalism.
Its no accident that the LCBO store is there plus the Indigenous People of Thunder Bay Development Corp, ElevateNWO, Oak Medical Arts and Pharmacy and a McDonalds. Everything an “unhoused/addicted/mentally-ill’ member of society needs to get through their busy day. As well, there are two campsites within a 5 minute walk of the area.
Just go talk to the McDonalds manager about experiences dealing with the South Cumberland crowd.
Property taxes should be nothing or next to nothing for the buildings in this area. Its a designated shithole. Property values in designated shitholes are low. Who would want to live/work/do business there?
Until property taxes reflect the REAL value of properties, there is no incentive for our high salaried residents of City Hall to do anything.
