There is a a lesson to be learned here. I don’t feel sorry for the young lady that incurred the $137,000 student loan debt. Its a decision she made. She is fully responsible to repay that money. Not understanding the implications of taking on such a huge debt load with no idea of future employment possibilities is about as irresponsible as you can get.
No forgiveness. You signed the papers. You pay it all back. She is soooo screwed.
I feel sorry for the poor sod who married her. That person is now also responsible for paying back that debt. A debt that he had nothing to do with. His life is also now screwed. And they have kids as well?
The lesson learned is always understand the financial situation that anyone you are having any kind of relationship with. Especially if marriage is being contemplated. Nobody is worth the long term pain and misery that a large debt load will produce.
If your future partner is carrying a large debt load, run. Run as fast as you can.
